Client Consultation Report

Project completed for Usability Testing in Technical Writing under the supervision & guidance of Stephen Quigley.

Background

This project covers a usability and accessibility report of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Social Work website. This report aimed to provide critical insight into the website's user experience and usability of Pitt's School of Social Work website. Our client, Shannon Murphy, is the Director of Marketing and Communication for Pitt’s School of Social Work and was looking for new developments as the school updated its site.

My Contributions

Throughout the process of this report, I conducted usability and design heuristic evaluations to explore the site's flaws and positives. I created two personas and created three hypothetical scenarios targeting the persona's field of study. From these scenarios, participants were gathered to track how long it took for each participant to complete each scenario.

User Testing Script

To evaluate the usability of the website and to identify flaws or benefits of the website, we had four participants engage with three separate scenarios to gauge their opinions.

Design and Accessibility Heuristic Evaluation

After conducting interviews, our team created a design and accessibility heuristic using Jakob Nielsen’s Heuristics. To conduct our accessibility report, we used Chrome Extensions such as ScreenReader to read text from the screen aloud, Lighthouse to provide a report with scores on the accessibility, performance, and best practices of the website, and ChromeLens to stimulate different visual impairments.

Final Report

Our final report consisted of a final written report, a separate spreadsheet containing our heuristic evaluation findings, and a slideshow presentation to present to our peers. The slideshow presentation contained our recommendations, methodology, and findings.
